My beautiful little daughter is already two months old! About a week and a half ago we had Cora's baby blessing. My Dad, Kevin, and Scott came down for the blessing. My Mom and the rest of the family couldn't come because the kids had youth conference in Salt Lake City that weekend. We had my dad, Joe, Scott, Kevin, PJ, and Kevin stand in the circle. Susan made a dress for Cora and it was so pretty. Cora looked beautiful! Today I was doing laundry and was washing Cora's blessing dress and my temple dress. As I laid them both out to dry I just thought how I can't wait until Cora is old enough to have her own temple dress and go through the temple as well. We are so blessed to have the gospel! We had Cora's 2 month appointment a couple days ago and she is doing great. She was 11 lbs. 4 oz. at her appointment, so she is a cute little chunk! She was 22 1/4 inches. She has been such a sweet and wonderful baby, we love her so much! She has started grinning all the time. Her "fussy" time is in the evening, so Daddy doesn't get very many smiles since that is when he is home, but she still loves to see him. She loves her little swing and will fall asleep in there all the time. She also loves to be held, but is picky about how it is done. She hates being held up on the shoulder, she would rather be held facing out so she can see what is going on. She isn't as cuddly as Calvin was, which is actually a good thing because she is happier on her own a lot of the time, but it is still hard when you want to give her snuggles and she isn't having it. She is definitely a puker! She pukes all the time, and lots of it haha. I put her hair up in a ponytail for the first time today and it was super cute. I love that she has so much hair, I think it just makes her that much cuter. Her hair is starting to grow in blonde and her eyes look like they might stay blue. So we may have a blue eyed, blonde haired little girl! There is seriously nothing cuter in the world than when you get down on the floor with her and she looks right at you and grins and talks to you. I love it so much! I seriously wish she would stop growing, I just want her to be my perfect little baby forever!
Calvin is doing really good too! He had his first "real" dentist appointment today. He had one a couple weeks ago (after he cracked his two front teeth) to check on them and then today he had another check-up and a cleaning (or as much cleaning as they can do on a 1 year old). He did really great and was a very big boy. He got a prize ball which, for him, made it all worth it. He chipped his teeth about two and a half weeks ago on the playground. He was climbing up a set of bars to get to the big slide and, what we think happened, is that he fell backward and hit his head and his top teeth hit his bottom teeth and broke. Nobody saw the actual fall, but I did hear the gong of the metal bar (ouch!). I'm pretty sure if he had hit his teeth on the bar itself he wouldn't have any top teeth left. He was really brave and it only seemed to bother him for a couple hours before he was over it. I'm not sure if it is the way we are raising him or if he was born with it, but Calvin is a tough kid! He seems to get hurt all the time, and usually they look super painful, but he always jumps up and gets going without much fuss. Sometimes he needs Mommy or Daddy to kiss it better and then he is off playing again. Another "big ouchy" that Calvin got recently was on his head. We went out to eat at Rock Bottom in Loveland and we were sitting in an elevated booth. Calvin was sitting in a booster seat on the outside edge (smart parenting on our part), threw a fit and tumbled off the side right onto his head. It was probably a four foot drop directly onto his head. He cried for about five minutes with that one and had a huge ugly bruise on his head for about a week. As always, everyone is super impressed with everything Calvin is able to do. Physically and mentally he seems to be above and beyond in every way. He is talking in full sentences without being told what to say. He has also been saying really funny things out of nowhere that I don't know where he picked up. Some things he's said are, "Holy cow, ucky puckiss, that's dang hot", and there have been others I can't remember right now. He keeps me laughing all the time!
Last week we went to Evanston and it was a lot of fun. Calvin LOVES his Evanston family and he also got to see his Aunt Cassidee (one of his favorite people). Every morning he would wake up and start saying, "I want Grandma", and wouldn't be happy until he found her. He loved to walk around the house and just randomly say hi to whoever was in the room, it was really cute. On Wednesday we went to Salt Lake and had a fun filled day. We went to Liberty Park and Calvin got to feed the ducks and ride some old carnival rides. He thought both of those things were pretty cool. Then we went to City Creek Mall and Calvin played in the splash pad at the mall. That night Nathan, Kevin, and I went to the Salt Lake City Temple to do a session while Calvin hung out with everyone else. He loved to see the temple and got to do some fun things on temple square. The whole time we were in the temple Cora slept and was a good girl for Grandma and Grandpa. Later in the week Calvin got to go to the fair in Evanston. He loved to see the animals with Grandma and Aunt Cassidee. He got a little bit scared by the cow when it mooed right next to his ear haha.
Another fun thing we did was a make a home video with all the kids. It was called, "What Did He Eat", a truly inspired idea from the mind of Nathan Shumway.
Well, things have been going good. We can't complain here at the Shumway house. I love these kids and, even though they make life crazy, I don't know what I would do without them!
