This is our new family blog! It was started with a lot of tears over the loss of former blogs, but here we go... a fresh start.
Nathan is in his second year of law school and still doing great. He works hard at being a great student and a great husband and father. We sure are lucky to have him.
My only job right now is being a stay at home mom to Calvin and our soon to be baby girl! Sometimes I am able to get a job substitute teaching, but I definitely prefer staying home with my boy.
Now to the interesting stuff... what has Calvin been up to? Calvin is almost 16 months old and is the sweetest, smartest, most adorable boy EVER! He is so smart and seems so advanced for his age. He is saying a ton of words and repeats everything. He is now able to communicate a lot of what he wants to me, which helps us both! If I don't get what he wants right away he will come up to my face and start saying what he wants slower and louder until I get it. Calvin's favorite things in the whole world right now are balls and candles. He seriously LOVES balls, especially basketballs. We just bought him a basketball hoop that we have in the living room and he will throw balls into it pretty much all day. He is becoming a really good shot and can make it in the hoop more often than not. It stands higher than he can reach so he can't just drop it in, he actually has to shoot it. Whenever anyone mentions the word basketball he gets super excited and starts saying "Ba-ball". Nathan has been taking him to UW and high school games whenever he can and Calvin loves them. Anytime we leave the house now he starts saying "ba-ball, ba-ball" because he thinks he gets to go to a game. We went to a high school game the other night (Codee's senior night for cheerleading) and during half time Calvin ran out onto the court. When Nathan went out to get him he took off running and the student section was cheering for him to get away, it was awesome. A funny side note... when we got to the game we were getting our hands stamped and Calvin FREAKED out when the lady tried to stamp his hand.
Another thing Calvin loves is candles. Anytime he sees a candle he has to tell us over and over what it is and always wants it lit. When we light it he always blows it out immediately. He gets so excited and looks so cute blowing them out that it is hard to resist. I bought him his own little mini candle at walmart that he enjoys carrying around, pulling the lid on and off, and smelling (or pretending to anyway). He has enjoyed several candle-lit meals because he eats much better when he can look at the candle on the table.
Calvin is such a good boy. He sleeps through the night almost every night (besides a few when he has night terrors) and is down to a great bedtime routine. He loves his blanket and will cuddle up to it while we rock him to sleep. We've been taking him swimming and he is getting so brave! He just runs into the water and goes all the way out till he's on his tip-toes and only his little face is out of the water with a huge grin. Even when he falls under the water and we pull him up he has a huge grin on his face.
Calvin is just the light of my life. He is so darling and sweet and perfect. It honestly feels like my heart is overflowing when I think about how much I love my little boy.
Now, of course, I need to say a couple things about our baby girl! I am in my second trimester with her and things are going great. The first trimester was a NIGHTMARE and was so different from my pregnancy with Calvin that we suspected a girl from very early on. We were so excited to find out we are having a sweet baby girl... I can't wait to meet her! She is very quiet and still during the day, but when I lay down at night I can feel her moving and kicking around (of course when Mom is trying to sleep). We talked a lot about girls names (which was really hard!) and we think that we have settled on Cora (no middle name yet). I have always liked the name and just happened to see it in a family ancestry book (bonus) while looking for girl names.
Well that is a start to the blog and a starting point for what is going on in our lives! I love my little family.
